History

Diamond S Farms was founded in 1939 by Harry and Lottie Shelton. The original farm has been in the family since a royal land grant in 1771 from King George III of Great Britian to Thomas Ramsey Sr., dated August 3, 1771, whose decendent Marion Ramsey married John Shelton November 17, 1892. Tobacco was the primary cash crop for Harry and his son, Ronnie, who farmed together until Harry's death in 1968. Ronnie and his wife Mildred expanded the total acreage and added beef cattle in 1960 and currently run the operation with their son and his wife, Eddie and Debbie Shelton and their daughter Jesse. With the primary emphasis involving both beef cattle and Quarter Horses, the Diamond S brand was registered with the state of Virginia in 1989 to identify the quality of stock that the Shelton's are dedicated to producing for the industry.
